Once we started to talk about writing, the standard of golf deteriorated...
Hi there,
‘It’s a small world’ is a saying often stated. I experienced this the other day. I play golf, and during the week, I played a friendly game with a relatively new member. About halfway around the course, the subject of writing came up. I can’t remember how it came about or who brought it up, but it transpired that my colleague was also a writer of fiction books. He mainly writes thrillers and ghost stories. He hasn’t published any books yet but hopes to self-publish soon. He’s also won three short-story magazine competitions.
Once we started to talk about writing, the standard of golf deteriorated. We were both so animated to meet another writer. All we wanted to do was bounce ideas off each other and discuss strategies and writing craft. It turned out to be an interesting conversation. I later found out he wrote and directed plays for his local Amateur Dramatic Society and had done for many years. His current projects include novels about his adventures in the Merchant Navy (6 years) and a story about three golfers.
Yes, it’s a small world. I’m delighted to have met up with a fellow writer (the first), and I’m sure we will arrange to meet again to share various aspects of the tools of the trade.
